Changing the look of your sofa

Our sofa has been looking a little bit dated for a while now. I love it but it has started to fade and its rich red colour is more of a burnt out red rather than the vibrant colour that it once was.

While i’ d love to be able to buy a new sofa, at the moment it just isn’t possible – my credit card balance certainly wouldn’t agree and it ‘s not covered by our insurance.

So, this got me thinking – how could I spruce up our sofa, without getting rid of it entirely? The answer that I came up with is: throws. Throws are a great way to cover up fading furniture and to stop even more wear and tear. They aren’t a permanat solution by any means, but for a few months, it will make my living room feel cosy rather than threadbare, so i’ve been scouring the web to find the best throws out there!

Here are some of my favourites! Matching the deep red of my sofa is this lush basket weave throw from online retailer very.co.uk. Plus, I bought 2 of them and managed to save some pennies!

I’m also a massive fan of a lose knit throw, the perfect one comes fromM&S – it’s not red, but I think that it would complement the room well, especially if I add in a nice mix of cushions!

When it comes to buying birthday present I’m always torn. Do I buy friends things they need or have asked for, do I get them something they want but would never think to ask for or get them something they will love but don’t need and may never actually use. It can be difficult to [...]

There are several items of furniture which are a must have in any bedroom. A lot of thought goes in to items such as the bed, dressing tables and accessories, but one key item that doesn’t get a lot of thought is the wardrobe. This essential item is often forgotten about and is a last [...]

It can be difficult to find the perfect cake that everyone likes. Chocolate is an obvious choice but its surprising the number of people who don’t actually like it, vanilla is another safe bet but it is a little boring. So this year why not choose ginger. Now this is quite a controversial choice for [...]

Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday is coming up and it gives us the opportunity to spoil our mum’s rotten and show her just how much she means to us. For most years this means showering her in chocolates and flowers and taking her out for a meal. But this year why not do something a bit different and [...]

Valentine’s day is almost upon us yet again and so the search is well underway to find the perfect gift. This is only the third one with my boyfriend but already it is getting difficult to think up new, interesting and practical gifts so I have no idea how people who have been together for [...]

After Christmas it can be hard to know exactly what to do with the cards you have received and any leftover wrapping paper. Sometimes you can receive some really nice looking cards that you just don’t want to throw them away but at the same time it seems a real shame to keep them in [...]

Last minute Christmas Presents

I spent Christmas feeling rather smug, I’d got all my christmas presents bought, they are wrapped and under my tree well before the big day. I’d also written out all my cards and posted those that need to go out, the others are sorted in to groups to be delivered next week. On top of [...]

A Natural Christmas

The shops seem to be full at the moment of glittering, plastic looking balls, tress and other Christmas decorations. While these can, in their own right, brighten up a room and make it look ‘Christmassy’ I have to admit I’m starting to look back towards a natural, traditional Christmas. This longing for a green Christmas [...]

Decorating a Christmas Table

If you are the unfortunate host Christmas day can seem like one of the most stressful days of the year, not only do you have to cook the traditional Christmas dinner getting up at the crack of dawn to start the turkey roasting, catering to everyone’s likes and dislikes, I’ve known people end doing 3 [...]
